STANDING OVATION FOR EURO HERO DAVID ROONEY THE club's annual awards' night proved a big success with a record attendance. It was a historic night too with club member David Rooney on hand to display his European U-23 team championship gold medal. He is the first club athlete to win a medal at a major international championship event. David, who only took up running when he was 18, received a standing ovation. Master of Ceremonies Pat Hooper conducted with presentation ceremony ably assisted by Stephen Brady while the presentation party consisted of club President Nick Corish; Vice President Paddy Noonan, chair Anne Buckley and Ray McCormack, the club's oldest marathoner. The recepients of the main awards were: Athlete of the Year: Barbara Sanchez Female Cross Country/Road Athlete of the Year: Lorraine Manning Female Track Athlete of the Year: Susan Scallon Male Cross Country/Road Athlete of the Year: David Rooney Male Track Athlete of the Year: Richard Corcoran Merit Award: Paul Brady Keith Monaghan Trophy: Mick Clohisey (Presented to the most consistent male scorer on senior team in 20 designated races) Mary Lynch Trophy: Aoife Talty (Presented to the most consistent female scorer on senior team in 20 designated races) Quinner Trophies (Presented to the first male and female athlete from the club to finish the Dublin Marathon) Female: Barbara Sanchez Male: Frank Mangan.
