RAHENY ATHLETES SHINE IN SUTTON Sutton Park Results
After the highly competitive North Leinster Schools Track & Field, and the imminent Leinster Schools, many of our athletes were in action yesterday in a more relaxed event in the Sutton Park Schools Invitational Sports.
With St. Paul’s, St. Fintan’s and host school Sutton Park battling it out for places in the boys races, Manor House were up against Sutton Park and Santa Sabina for placing in the girls events.
Dick’s crew from St. Paul’s showed their strengths today over the shorter track events with Donal Foley, Timmy Moriarty and John Moriarty all competing in the 100m, 200m, 800m, Long Jump and Relay. Timmy won the Intermediate boys 800m and also finished 1st in the 200m, 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the Long Jump. His younger brother John finished 3rd in the Intermediate 200m and 5th in the 800m. Meanwhile, Donal finished 2nd in the Senior 800m and also ran a very credible 100m, 200m and competed in the Long Jump.
St. Fintan’s had good club representation with Graeme Keane winning the Senior 800m, Conor Ring 3rd 800m, Colm Coffey 1st in the 200m, Geoff White 1st 100m, Colum O’Leary 2nd Intermediate 800m and James Wall 2nd Junior 800m.
St. Fintan’s also won all their respective relays, with the St. Paul’s team made up of Donal, Timmy, John and Graeme (from St. Fintan’s) following very closely behind to finish 2nd in the Senior boys.
The minor girls 80m saw club athletes Emma Balfe, Meadhbh Dunne, Holly Ryan and Sadhbh Smyth finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. In the Long Jump, Meadhbh Dunne took 1st ahead of Emma Balfe 2nd and Sadhbh Smyth 4th. Holly Ryan also won the 500m. In the Junior events, Deirdre Egan finished 1st in the 200m and 1st in the 800m. Manor House fielded two teams in the minor relays finishing 1st and 4th; along with the Junior team finishing 1st.
Victoria Dwyer won the Senior girls 100m, and Siobhan McKenny finished 1st in the 200m.
Many thanks to Niamh O’Hare and her colleagues for hosting a great day of athletics, not forgetting the school coaches Dick, Paddy and Colette for bringing their athletes out today.
