Magnificent Performance in Tullamore League final The men's track and field team rounded off a marvellous season by claiming third place in the AAI National League final in Tullamore today, August 20. Under the captaincy of Mick Martin, the team performed heroically to claim the bronze medal position behind the winners, North Down and old rivals, Clonliffe Harriers. Raheny recorded four wins, two seconds and five third place finishes. Hero of the afternoon was Olympian Paddy McGrath, who returned from the US especially for the event. He won both the hammer and the 56lbs for distance. There were also wins on the track for Feidhlim 'Nelly' Kelly in the 800m - he also claimed third place in the 400m - and Mark Kirwan in the 3,000m steeplechase. Prior to his departure back to Providence College, Richie Yeates was second in the 5,000m while Mick Clohisey also finished second in the 1500m In addition to Nelly's third place in the 400m, Cian Healy finished third in both the shot and discuss, Stuart Greene was third in the pole vault and Joe Mahon was third in the 3k walk. Well done to all, athletes, coaches, team captain and fans. On Saturday Bernard Roe underlined the improvement he has made since joining the club when he finished 7th in the Frank Duffy 10 in the Phoenix Park while Orla Gormley ran a PB for the distance. In the Naas 5k Ian Chaney finished second in 15.23. Full details and results to follow.
